Do you work a regular day job and then go home to work on your own business?  The truth is that many people juggle entrepreneurship and a regular job.  When people start their own businesses, they may not be ready to give up the stability, and the paycheck, that goes along with their regular job.  They don’t want to give up their dreams of working for themselves either.

Here are a few reasons that people choose to own their own business and work for someone else:

  • Gives you the opportunity to see if entrepreneurship is right for you.
  • Allows you to test your ideas to see if they are worth pursuing.
  • Gives you added money to start up your business.
  • Helps you to build up a customer base without running the risk of financial struggles.
  • Helps you to get more financing options.

While you bring in your check from your regular job and work to get your own business up and running, it is important to have a good balance between them.  Multitasking can prove to be the key, but you will want to focus on them separately.  You want to make sure that you make the most of all of your resources, including:

  • Free time during your breaks and after work
  • Technology
  • Support system made up of friends and family
  • Scheduling your tasks
  • Self-discipline

While you are juggling both tasks, you will want to make sure that you avoid these temptations:

  • Using your company’s time and resources for your own business
  • Dishonesty with your boss
  • Sacrificing time with your family
  • Neglecting to have time for yourself

It may be necessary for you to outsource some of your tasks.  You might want to consider hiring someone to help out with the chores around the house.

Entrepreneurship and full-time employment can definitely be challenging, but it can work if you take the time to prepare yourself.  You will need to have effective time management skills if you really want to be successful.
